چکیده

In this paper we investigate the pseudoparabolic equation ∂tc = div { k (c) μ ( − P ′ C (c)∇c + τ∇∂tc + gρen )} , where τ is a positive constant, c is the moisture content, k is the hydraulic conductivity and PC is the static capillary pressure. This equation describes unsaturated flows in porous media with dynamic capillary pressure saturation relationship. In general, such models arise in a number of cases when non-equilibrium thermodynamics or extended non-equilibrium thermodynamics are used to compute the flux. For this equation existence of the travelling wave type solutions was extensively studied. Nevertheless, the existence seems to be known only for the non-degenerate case, when k is strictly positive. We use the approach from statistical hydrodynamics and construct the corresponding entropy functional for the regularized problem. Such approach permits to get existence, for any time interval, of an appropriate weak solution with square integrable first derivatives in x and in t and square integrable time derivative of the gradient. Negative part of such weak solution is small in L-norm with respect to x, uniformly in time, as the square root of the relative permeability at the value of the regularization parameter. Next we control the regularized entropy. A fine balance between the regularized entropy and the degeneracy of the capillary pressure permits to get an L uniform bound for the time derivative of the gradient. These estimates permit passing to 1 the limit when the regularization parameter tends to zero and obtaining the existence of global nonnegative weak solution.

A Model Problem for Unsaturated Porous Media Flow with Dynamic Capillary Pressure

We consider a simplified model of vertical non-static groundwater flow, resulting in a Burgers’ diffusive equation extended with a third order term with mixed derivatives in space and time. This model is motivated by previous work on the existence of travelling wave solutions on a more general model. We investigate stability of travelling wave solutions of the simplified model, for which we fir...

A Novel Approach to Measuring Water and Oil Relative Permeabilities in Two-phase Fluid Flow in Porous Media

In this study, direct laboratory measurements of unsteady-state imbibition test are used in a new approach to obtain relative permeability curves with no predetermined functionality assumptions. Four equations of continuity, Darcy’s law, cumulative oil production, and water fractional flow are employed in combination together under certain assumptions to present the new approach which interpret...

Dynamic Analysis of Porous Media using Generalized Plasticity Model and Non-Darcy Flow Rule

Biot equations that consider fluid and soil interaction at the same time are the most applicable relationships in the soil dynamic analysis. However, in dynamic analysis, due to the sudden increase in the excess pore pressure caused by seismic excitation and the occurrence of high hydraulic gradients, the assumption of the Darcy flow used in these equations is questionable. In the present study...

Experimental Study of Dynamic Capillary Pressure Effect in Two-phase Flow in Porous Media

There is strong evidence in the literature that traditional equations describing two-phase flow processes in porous media may be inadequate under non-equilibrium or dynamic conditions. There exist theories that propose that the capillary pressure depends not only on saturation but also on the time rate of change of saturation. In this work, the significance of dynamic effects in the capillary p...

Solvability of an Unsaturated Porous Media Flow Problem with Thermomechanical Interaction

Abstract. A PDE system consisting of the momentum balance, mass balance, and energy balance equations for displacement, capillary pressure, and temperature as a model for unsaturated fluid flow in a porous viscoelastoplastic solid is shown to admit a solution under appropriate assumptions on the constitutive behavior. The problem involves two hysteresis operators accounting for plastic and capi...
